The Linux Foundation has unveiled its latest venture with the launch of Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LF Decentralized Trust). This new organization aims to foster collaboration and innovation across a wide range of technologies, including blockchain, digital identity, and cryptography.
The initiative has the support of over 100 founding members and encompasses projects from established foundations like Hyperledger and Trust Over IP.
Today we’re proud to launch with 100+ founding members and 17 projects! @trustoverip @dfnsHQ, @dhiwaynetworks, @Exponential_Sci, @hashgraph, Ownera, @0xPolygon,@print2block, @RaylsLabs, @SERPRO, @TCS, and @wanchain_org.

Interestingly, Hedera has contributed its entire codebase to LF Decentralized Trust, joining industry giants Accenture, DTCC, and Hitachi as a founding Premier Member.
This contribution marks a major shift in the governance of Hedera’s source code, which will now fall under the purview of the Linux Foundation.
However, it’s important to note that the network governance of Hedera will remain with the Hedera Council, maintaining the platform’s unique decentralized structure.
LF Decentralized Trust: A New Era for Blockchain Collaboration
The LF Decentralized Trust has 17 total projects at its inception, including the newly contributed Hedera codebase (now known as the Hiero project).
Notable additions to the project landscape include Besu, formerly known as Hyperledger Besu, which has gained traction in the financial services sector, and Lockness, a new ecosystem for key management and digital signature protocols.
Daniela Barbosa, General Manager of Decentralized Technologies at the Linux Foundation and Executive Director of LF Decentralized Trust, emphasized the global impact of the initiative, stating, “Around the world, decentralized technologies are modernizing critical systems and core infrastructure.”
